The race is the eighth round of the 2018 FIA Formula One World Championship and marks the first time that the French Grand Prix has been run since 2008. It is the eighty-seventh running of the French Grand Prix, and the fifty-eighth time the event had been included as a round of the Formula One World Championship since the inception of the series in 1950.
